Great News! Earlier this year over 1,200 people participated in the 11^th Annual Save the Manatee 5K Run, 2 Mile Fun Walk, and the Mini Manatee Mile. But none of these events took place in Florida. All the manatee fun was located in Mount Clemens, Michigan at the Metro Huron-Clinton Metropark, about 1,400 miles from Florida!

This was all made possible by Ms. Lesley Argiri, biology teacher at L’Anse Creuse High School. Lesley explains, “Manatees have really been struggling these past years from cold stress, red tide, and boating injuries and deaths.”

After her Michigan event, Lesley sent a donation to the Save the Manatee Club in the amount of $13,500. And this now brings her 11-year total to $100,000! “I love manatees, and I know there are a lot of Michiganders who feel the same way I do, so it makes perfect sense to help manatees whether you live in Michigan, or anywhere else – not just Florida.” Lesley said.
